When I’m helping a client who has a goal to eat better, I tell them there are two different areas we must work on in order for them to be successful. One, which is often easier, is helping them understand the basics of clean eating. Grasping what clean eating is all about is really quite easy. The second area we work on can be a bit more challenging. A large part of what I do is help my clients determine the “why” behind their behavior and how to change it. They will often come to me knowing exactly what they need to do to eat better and lose weight, but just can’t seem to get themselves to do it. It seems no matter what they try, they revert back to their old destructive habits. It doesn’t have to be that way.
It’s such a wonderful feeling when I help a client realize why they’ve been behaving in a certain way and how to change it. My advice for any of you in the same position, is make sure you focus on the ‘why’. Knowledge is great and a necessary part of the equation, but if you fail to determine your ‘why’, you may very well keep repeating the same cycle. Willpower can only bring you so far. Focus on your ‘why’ and you’ll be well on your way to a happy, healthy lifestyle!
